Chico WIld FlowerHad a great time this past weekend in Chico. Weather was great and the ride was a pain in the ass. Well it was, but it was an adventure to say the least.Barb, Jeff, and Stacey did the 30 mile flat ride. Saw them Saturday night in the Oroville - more on that later. I did not see them Sunday morning. I went down with Fatty and Blockhead. I can say fatty because my nickname is Asshole. They both rode the 60 mile flat ride as did Rik and Travis. We all started the same time on Sunday and went our separate ways and speed. I think Rik and Travis honked at me on the way out of town as I was going down the back stretch of my ride. Rik was that you in the black SUV? I had to try the 65 mile hill ride, they call it the Mild Flower. There was nothing mild about it. Ahhh, Honey Run Road or as they say on their site - You will know you have climbed a hill when done. My goal was to not walk my bike up the 1,900 foot climb. Well I made it but it was not pretty. I would guess for every 10 people that passed me I might have passed one other rider. It was slow and slower. I did not leave 1st gear for 3 miles. There were at least 15 people walking it while I was going up the hill. Do's and Dont's for next year: Do not stay at the Days Inn in Oroville. Place was a dump while cheap - $65 a night - Blockhead hit right - $1 a foot - tiny - tiny rooms. They also don't like fat people because we asked for the bottom floor and were told unavailable but minutes later Barb checked in and got a bottom room. Do not let Fatty be your navigator - yes we were starring in the Lost Boys Saturday night. I think we ended up in Auburn 5 times? Do not eat all the fiber goodies at the rest areas because you could end up being called asshole for other reasons than your personality. Do some hard training before the ride. Two weeks before the ride next year Blockhead is going to let his kids hit him down low with golf clubs to get ready for the ride. |
